Time Savings Calculator
Put a dollar figure on the hours you get back each week, and see how fast what you paid to get them back pays for itself.
Your salary, or what you bill per hour.
Count work that repeats every week. 8 is one working day.
A course, a tool, a hire: anything you'd pay for the time.
Those hours are worth
$18,462
a year
- Per week
- $385
- Per month
- $1,538
- Your hour
- $48.08
Payback
$297 pays for itself after 6.2 saved hours, in week 1.
First-year return: 62× what it cost.
How the math works
- 1. Your hour. Annual pay ÷ 2,080. If you bill by the hour, use that rate as it is.
- 2. What the hours are worth. Your hour × hours back each week × 48 working weeks.
- 3. Payback. Cost ÷ your hour is how many saved hours it takes to break even. Yearly value ÷ cost is the first-year return.
Example: $100,000 a year is $48.08 an hour. A day back every week is 384 hours a year, worth $18,462. A $297 course pays for itself after 6.2 of those hours.
What to count
The result is only as good as the hours you put in. Count work that comes back every week and follows the same steps each time:
- Research before calls, pitches and proposals
- First drafts of emails, posts and reports
- Status updates, recaps and meeting notes
- Copying data between tools and spreadsheets
Time one normal week before you pick a number.
Questions
- How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?
- Divide it by 2,080, the paid hours in a full-time year (40 hours × 52 weeks). $75,000 a year is about $36 an hour; $150,000 is about $72.
- Why 48 weeks and not 52?
- Your salary covers 52 weeks, but you only save time in the weeks you work. 48 leaves four weeks for holidays and leave, which keeps the result on the conservative side.
- Should I use my salary or what I cost the business?
- For your own time, salary is fine. If you run a team or are pricing someone else's time, use what that person costs the business: salary plus benefits, payroll taxes and tools. That's higher than base pay, so every hour back is worth more.
- Can AI really give me back a day a week?
- It depends on how much of your week is repeatable work, which is why the calculator lets you set the hours yourself. Our Claude Cowork course is built around getting a full day back, and it comes with a 30-day guarantee: build the system, and if it doesn't save you a full day in your first month, you get a full refund.
